About

Hi! I’m Fabiana, a Team Lead in User Operations at bunq. At bunq safety is at the heart of everything we do, and my team makes sure our users are secure while making their life easy – for example, as we safely set up their account in just 5 minutes or help them make international payments with ease.

In under three years, I’ve grown from a compliance officer to trainer, mentor and team lead for more than 80 team members, which is just one example of our team’s ability to defy boundaries and achieve the impossible, thanks to bunq’s unique culture.

What qualities do you think are essential for success?

For me, it has always been crucial to stay open to new challenges and people while keeping a positive spirit. That’s why I moved to the Netherlands at the age of 30, stepping into the unknown and starting my career anew.

I owe everything to my 20-year career as a professional basketball player. It taught me that we have to welcome the challenges in life as an opportunity to improve. Whether it is a tough opponent in a basketball game or a difficult case to solve at work, stay focused on the ultimate goal and don’t give up at the first difficulty. I remember the time I had to get stitches in my eye and an eye patch during a basketball game after a collision with an opponent, but I continued to play with one eye bandaged… we won the game and I was called to the Italian national team!

In basketball as at work and life, teamwork is crucial. Supporting each other and listening to feedback without letting ego get in the way always leads to great results. Don’t be afraid, trust your instincts and don’t impose limits on yourself!
